Award-winning Tenor, Benjamin Ruiz, has been described by Bach Track as “wonderfully intense” and “very well-voiced”. He began his operatic journey as Young LBJ in the world premiere of Lady Bird: The First Lady of the Land by Henry Mollicone. In the year following, Ruiz made his European Debut with Mittelsächsisches Theatre in Der Vogelhändler (Profesor Würchem) and in Brundibar (Polizist) under the baton of Alexander Livenson. Other role credits include; Angelique (L’Italien), Orpheus in the Underworld (John Styxx), Dido and Aeneas (Aeneas), Die Zauberflöte (Tamino), Hansel and Gretel (Witch), and Turn of the Screw (Peter Quint, Prologue).

Benjamin is an alumnus of Texas State University (Bachelors) and Manhattan School of Music in New York City, where he received his Masters in Voice Performance as the recipient of the Edgar Foster Daniel’s Foundation Scholarship. At MSM, he studied with Neil Rosenshein and Dimitri Pittas; and performed several principal roles in Manhattan School of Music’s acclaimed Main Stage productions. Ruiz was under the baton of Maestro’s George Manahan and the Metropolitan Opera’s Pierre Vallet. Outside of operatic performances, he has been invited to perform in master classes hosted by the Metropolitan Opera’s Chorus Master, Donald Palumbo, as well as the Donizetti Festival in New York City for international opera star, Javier Camarena. In concert, Ruiz joined Courtney’s Stars of Tomorrow as an emerging artist debuting in the 2022 Summer Concert Series “Opera in the Park” and with the Grammy-Award winning Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra during OTSL’s Center Stage Concert in 2024.

In the 2023-2024 season, Ruiz joined Lyric Opera of Kansas City’s Resident Artist Program where he made his American and Lyric Opera of Kansas City Debut as Beppe in Pagliacci; and additionally performed the roles of Ollie in Sketchbook for Ollie, and Tybalt in Romeo et Juliette. Continuing his 2023-2024 season, Benjamin joined the prestigious Gerdine Young Artist Program at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, where he made his OTSL debut as Prune Man in La Bohéme. This upcoming season Ruiz will be joining the world-renowned Apprentice Program for Singers at The Santa Fe Opera for their 2025 season. He will be study-covering the role of the Duke of Mantua from Rigoletto, as well as participating in their Apprentice Scenes for international opera exposure.

As a contender, Ruiz has extensive competition experience beginning when he placed and won the Texoma National Association of Teachers of Singing’s local, state, and regional finals. Ruiz is finding national success as a 2023 Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition Encouragement Award Winner, an award winner of the 2023 Alan M. and Joan Taub Ades Voice Competition, and a 1st Prize Winner in the Inaugural Duncan Williams Voice Competition, hosted by New York City Opera, Manhattan School of Music, and the Sphinx foundation.
